Tummy Tuck

Many women who have had children may benefit from a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck can restore a svelte pre-pregnancy figure to a woman with stretch marks, loose skin and stretched abdominal muscles. The procedure is also recommended after significant weight loss. Along with the tummy tuck, Dr. Godat may recommend liposuction to the hips. This will accentuate the waistline and create a more desirable body contour. You may also have breast or other cosmetic work done under the same anesthesia.

Tummy tuck surgery removes excess skin and stretch marks from the abdomen below the belly button and tightens the abdominal muscles. The result is a flat stomach, tight skin free of stretch marks, and narrow waistline. The scar is well hidden below the bikini line.

This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. When you arrive for surgery at your appointed time, you will meet your registered nurse and MD anesthesiologist. They will prepare you for the operating room and take care of you until you are ready to be taken home. Arrangements can be made to stay overnight in a hospital if you are having additional work and desire this service.

Daily activities and driving can be resumed in three days after a tummy tuck. Depending on your individual recovery capacity and type of work you do, return-to-work time is between four days to two weeks. Incision healing time is about three weeks. Strenuous activity can be resumed after six weeks.
