Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift, or mastopexy, restores youthful contour to the sagging breast. As a woman ages, her skin loses elasticity and the breast tissue loses its firmness. In this procedure, excess skin is removed, the nipple is raised to a higher position and the tissue is reshaped to create a more youthful breast.

Dr. Godat employs a short-scar breast lift procedure. This procedure, the vertical mastopexy, developed initially in France, gives less scarring and better shape that lasts longer than more traditional breast lift procedures.

Breast lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. An MD anesthesiologist and a registered nurse take of the patient until she is ready to return home. Most patients return to work the week of surgery. Incisions are healed at three weeks. Final results are usually seen in three months.

Breast augmentation with silicone or saline implants in conjunction with the breast lift may be performed. Dr. Godat will discuss the options so you can achieve your goals.
