Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

The chemical peel uses a technique that improves the appearance of the skin by removing fine wrinkles, facial blemishes, and irregularities in the skin layers. This peel is typically applied to the face, neck, and hands. The chemical solution that is applied to the skin causes it to blister slightly, and peel off. The new skin underneath is smoother and less wrinkled than the older skin, but is temporarily more sensitive to the sun.

A chemical peel is applied after the skin has been thoroughly cleaned to remove excess oils and after the eyes and hair are protected. One or more chemical solutions are chosen, usually based on the patient’s skin type and type of skin damage. The application of the solution creates a controlled wound, which allows the new skin to appear. For a shallow or medium depth peel, most patients will feel a warm to hot sensation for 5 to 10 minutes followed by a stinging sensation. A deeper peel may require pain medication during the application process and afterwards.

After the treatment, a reaction similar to that of a sunburn commonly appears. Shallow peels are usually followed by redness and then scaling that ends in three to seven days. Medium peels and deep peels may result in swelling and water blisters that will peel off in 7 to 14 days. Some peels might require bandages to be placed on part or all of the skin treated. Bandages improve the effectiveness of the treatment and are removed after several days. After a peel it is important to avoid lengthy exposure to the sun as the new skin is fragile and easily burned.

Vi Peel- We offer one of the best peels available on the market at Dr. Godat's office.  This peel causes little to no pain and can be done in as little as 15 minutes.  The results are unbelievable.  Typically patients' skin begins peeling around day 3 and continues to shed for about 1 week.  This peel addresses hyperpigmentation issues such as sun damage, melasma, freckles, and hormone changes that resulted in dark patches on the face.  The peel effectively smooths tired, dull skin and leaves a polished, fresh look.  Fine lines and wrinkles appear less deep and more plump with the surrounding skin.  Schedule your next Vi Peel with our office today!
