Eyelid Surgery (Blepharophasty)

Eyelid surgery is recommended for those patients who have excess fat deposits or bags above or below the eye. These puffy fatty deposits can make you appear tired or angry.

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty removes the excess skin and positions fat in the eyelids to eliminate puffiness and improve wrinkles. The eyes and entire face benefit with a more awake, alert and youthful appearance.

Incisions are typically made in the creases of your upper eyelids and just below the lashes in your lower eyelids, making scars well hidden. The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia, local with sedation, or general anesthesia if other work is being performed. All sedation and general anesthesia is done by a MD. Surgery is done on an outpatient basis.

The return-to-work time for eyelid surgery is three days, but can be more or less depending on the patient's own healing capacity and the type of work you do. In most patients, most of the bruising and swelling is resolved at the end of the first week.

Eyelid surgery can be done in conjunction with other procedures such as a brow lift, facelift and laser skin resurfacing. You can discuss all options with Dr. Godat at the time of consultation.
