Face Lift and Neck Lift Procedures

A face lift is a procedure for reversing the signs of aging by removing excess skin and elevating underlying facial structures. The face is reshaped and a youthful appearance is restored.

Incisions for a face lift usually are hidden above the hairline at the temples, and extend in a natural line around the ear to the lower scalp. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. An MD anesthesiologist will perform your anesthesia. A registered nurse takes care of your needs while you recover from anesthesia until you are ready to return home. If you desire, especially if you are having additional work performed, arrangements can be made for an overnight stay in the hospital.

Most patients can return to work after a week. In most patients, most bruising and swelling subsides in a week, although in some, two weeks may be required. Final results are seen six or more weeks after surgery.

A neck lift may be needed by itself or in conjunction with a facelift.

A neck lift removes the excess skin and fat and eliminates neck bands to restore a natural, attractive, and more youthful contour of the neck. The neck incision involves an additional incision under the chin which is short and well hidden. Recovery time is the same as the facelift and is almost always done in combination with a facelift.

Other procedures, such as laser resurfacing, may be recommended to maximize your appearance goals. For an aging forehead and eyes a browlift and eyelid surgery may be needed. These can be done in conjunction with the facelift or at another time.
