A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, restores youthful contour to sagging breasts. As a woman ages, her skin loses elasticity and the breast tissue loses its firmness. In this procedure, excess skin is removed, the nipple is raised to a higher position and the tissue is reshaped to create more youthful breasts. This procedure is done under general anesthesia and will take up to two hours to complete.
Why to consider a breast lift?
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Sagginess in breast over time
- Aging and gravity
- Desire of more youthful contoured breasts
Recovery & Results
Following your breast lift, you will notice an immediate difference in the look of your breasts. Your incisions will require no post-operative care and no stitches or drains will need to be removed. After surgery, patients must wear a post-operative bra provided by Dr. Godat 24 hours a day for three weeks. Dr. Godat recommends walking the evening of surgery and for the days after surgery to prevent post-operative complications and to facilitate a better recovery. Narcotic pain medication is provided for the patient's postoperative needs. Most patients return to work the week after surgery and incisions are healed at three weeks. Swelling may take up to six weeks to resolve at which time final results may be seen.
A breast lift is also a great cosmetic surgery to explore after your family is complete and you can combine all types of breast surgeries with other procedures like a tummy tuck or mommy makeover. That makes it easier to take advantage of time off, and to reduce your overall recovery time.
